U.N. ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY 2021

The United Nations (U.N.) declared 23rd April as English Language Day to commemorate the importance of the English Language, among other major global languages.

Here at BINUS School Bekasi, our students engaged in week-long activities to showcase their talents using the school’s main medium of instruction which is, the English language. All of the activities and competitions this year was centred on the U.N.’s annual theme, “Connect and Discover the World through English”.

Our Elementary students kicked off the celebrations with World Book Day on Thursday, 22nd April 2021. This online event was held in collaboration with our sister school, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug. Activities at the event included reading aloud, storytelling and Book and Character Trivia. This collaboration gave our students the opportunity to get to know one another better as they had to work in teams and groups in the activities.

Our ECY/EL students continued with their English Language Day celebrations beginning Monday, 26th April where they took part in pre-assembly activities during their English OCS sessions which saw its culmination at the division assemblies. Activities included the reciting or nursey rhymes, chants and role play in the ECY, storytelling and poetry recitals in the Lower Elementary and news reporting, creating of vlogs and video tutorials in the Upper Elementary. Our students were enthusiastic and submitted high quality entries.

Our MSHS students commemorated English Language Day with a range of activities which was held from 19th–  26th  April.   Our  MSHS  students showcased their language proficiency and literary and creative flair through creating of meaningful messages posted through Instagram, producing public service announcements (PSA) on relevant social issues, making creative vlogs, and expressing their ideas through our school’s annual F.R.E.D Talks, which is BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi’s signature speech contest.

At the culmination assembly, apart from the distribution of awards and recognitions for the winning entries, our Middle School students belted a profound rendition of “Heal the World” and “Dynamite”. Selected High School students shared their version of “We are the World”. What a creative & fun way to sharpen, practice and demonstrate our English Language skills! Carpe diem, BINUSIANS!
