United Nations Celebration

Our school community celebrated the United Nations Day on Friday, 29th October 2021 in division-wide assemblies with the theme “SDG Global Fest: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Agenda.”

Every year we celebrate United Nations Day; this year as the world is gradually recovering from the pandemic, it is time to reaffirm our commitment to achieve the global goals. Seventeen (17) goals to achieve extraordinary things: end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle climate change. With just nine years to go, a global effort is underway to deliver its promise by 2030. And as part of our School’s Vision and Mission, it is important for our students as global citizens to reflect and combat the global crisis that affected the world as we continue to foster and empower society in building a better nation.

The students had so much fun in the online assembly. One of the highlights of this celebration is that teachers and students wore traditional and national costumes from Indonesia and different parts of the world like Egypt, Mexico, Korea, China, and Japan. Also, the programme included story telling for ECY students on how to take care of the place we live in through simple actions. EL students watched videos about UN and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also participated in an online quiz that focused on the UN state members’ culture and language and SDGs.

In the MS/HS assembly, students were motivated by the speech of Ms. Josephine Annabelle Djibu (BSB Alumna, 2021), youth advocate and former Chairperson of Bye Bye Plastic Bag (BBPB) Jakarta Movement in BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi. She talked about her experiences as a youth advocate and how BBPB helped to achieve the UN-SDGs. Also, she encouraged our students to use their voices and act to help fight the global issues of today. There were also inspiring performances by students and video of the Parade of Nations which kept our audience entertained during the event.

This year, our UN Celebration featured a variety of activities to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. SDG Week Impact Challenge is a 1-week challenge to do different
activities that help to achieve the 17 SDGs. Here are some photo entries from our students:

Keeping the Promise Movement is to make SDGs your own and confirm your pledge by posting a photo filter that highlights key promises. Here are some photo entries from our students:
