Recharging Students’ Wellbeing Before Exam, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Presented “Let It Out Zone”

Shaping a positive academic and school environment requires a transformation and innovation across various aspects. The efforts are carried out not only by providing a personalised learning system and curriculum, but also by taking care of socio-emotional factors for the school.

BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi demonstrates its mission by implementing social-emotional learning (SEL) through diverse activities organised by and with the supervision of our guidance counsellors. Some of them are Character Development, Affective Education Week, and Weekly Counseling, which promote the well-being of our Binusians.

Particularly for our students in lower and upper secondary grades, we organised programmes before and after exam week. In this discussion, let’s see further details about the Let it Out Zone programme and how this activity contributes to recharging our students’ well-being before the exam season.

Regulating Overwhelming Emotions to Optimize Potential

It is undeniable that for most students, exam seasons give them more pressure and often trigger uncomfortable feelings, demotivation, and change in their behaviour. If neglected, those conditions will worsen and influence whole well-being, leading to more extensive damage.

Generally speaking, regulating stress and pressure in daily life is mandatory for better quality of life. In this regard, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi is also aware that our students’ well-being has a huge impact on their academic pursuits.

Therefore, our guidance counsellor initiated and organised a well-being programme called Let It Out Zone for students before the exam week.

This programme’s objective is to provide room for students to release their stress, allowing them to take a moment of breather, and encouraging them to cool down from the tension that their body and mind feel.

What we expect is that once finishing their participation in Let It Out Zone, our students will relieve their overwhelming emotions that once carried out, and their minds will be more peaceful. Hence, they will be more at ease in preparing, facing, and going through the exam season.

Let It Out Zone Activities: Recharging Moods with Our Guidance Counsellor

Our guidance counsellors in Secondary Affective Education invited students to enjoy a break from November 18 to 24, 2024, in our locales at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi: Foyer C and Mini Hall. Our guidance counsellor created several stations related to the event, including the Calming Room, Wellbeing Booth, and some fun games.

Practising Self-regulation

A calming room or calming space is known as a dedicated space that creates a therapeutic environment to assist students in learning and working on self-regulation practices. The room has various objects and tools to facilitate self-regulated activities. The room is designed to encourage students to raise their consciousness to manage their emotions and reflect before processing any actions related to their feelings.

Supportive Community Starts through Wellbeing Booth

This booth is dedicated to providing information regarding mental health and well-being. As students engage in this space, they understand the importance of keeping their well-being. This also served in developing connections between peers, increasing awareness to create a supportive environment that cared for each other in the long run.

Replenishing Focus and Energy by Playing Fun Games

Although fun games seem like they only supply fun, the benefits of unique, fun games in our Let It Out Zone are far greater than that. The games that our guidance counsellors picked and implemented during this event helped to enhance students’ focus and recognise their bodies and emotions while distributing their saturated energy in a good way.

Students also got to interact with their peers while exploring the games. This activity alone would contribute to developing their empathy honing their understandings and perspectives while boosting their confidence along the way.

BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Invests in Community’s Wellbeing

During two days of the Let It Out Zone event, students had the opportunity to nurture their knowledge about mental health and learn to self-regulate their body and mind, which will impact their performance when executing exams.

The outcome of this groundwork in promoting students’ well-being is primarily helping them optimise their academic potential through SEL during a critical stage of their academic life at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi.

We believe that investing in this groundwork will create a sustainably positive academic environment that enables students to achieve their goals.
