BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Presents “Adventures of Ami”: A Little Kartini at Heart – A Celebration of Creativity

In education, creativity sets the foundation for innovation. Nurturing creativity through arts helps humans develop analytical thinking, adaptability, and take diverse perspectives, which is essential for generating new ideas.  

With this in mind, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi presented its musical drama first production, entitled “Adventures of Ami: A Little Kartini at Heart,” a collaborative effort within the BINUSIAN community. 

This production carried a theme that highlighted inspiring cultural and historical values based on the life of R.A Kartini, aiming to support and celebrate students’ creativity and talents.

A 10th-Anniversary Stage: “Adventures of Ami” and the Spirit of Empowerment at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi

“Adventure of Ami: A Little Kartini at Heart” follows Ami, a courageous young girl, as the main character, embarking on a journey to stand up for what’s right. The plot also depicts the transformative power of education and self-determination in shaping one’s future.  

The first musical drama produced by BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi involved contributions from early years to secondary Grade students, along with the teachers and staff. Through this inspiring theme, our school also demonstrated a commitment to providing a holistic educational approach and supporting students’ creativity. 

Beyond fostering creativity, this initiative also deepens students’ respect for culture, history, and Indonesia as their motherland. 

As it introduced a great theme and story foundation, presented by the whole BINUSIAN Community, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi also chose this performance for the opening highlight of the 10th-anniversary celebration. Adventures of Ami: A Little Kartini at Heart will be performed in three parts to commemorate this special occasion.  

Our Students’ Creative Journey through Adventures of Ami 

Recognising the role of creative exploration in cognitive development, our school designed this production to involve all students and their teachers in producing this musical drama.  

While preparing and producing the musical drama, students explored their creative potential, from acting, singing, and dancing to designing the set and costumes. The performance also allowed them to express their emotions through the characters’ development.

Moreover, they learned how to harmonise every creative aspect of the production. Synchronising acting, dancing, and music with the set and properties on the stage further taught them the importance of solid collaboration from all teams. 

This process also sharpened their solution-oriented thinking skills as they navigated challenges to bring full-scale production to life.  

Our school’s principal, Maria Karah R. Gregorio, explained that while the theme is packed with local values and aligned with the SPIRIT BINUS values, the production also served as a creative outlet for students’ creativity and platform to encourage collaboration across the BINUSIAN community. 

A Tapestry of Talent and Collaboration of Our Community 

This first large musical drama production also marked a milestone of dedication and synergy between our teachers and students to develop education. Beyond mentoring students for every aspect and phase of the musical drama production, they were the craftsmen behind original songs and narrations that enhanced the storytelling. 

Hema Clara, the Head of Production, highlighted that the one year of creative preparation for this musical drama performance provided them with an invaluable learning experience.  

Their first production empowered them to form a solid team, strengthening their bonds as a community through ups and downs, leading to a fulfilling outcome. 

Without the collective effort of students and teachers, this production would not have been possible. 

Embracing Creativity for Innovation

The Adventures of Ami: A Little Kartini at Heart exemplifies how art activities nurture students’ creative abilities across diverse disciplines, including performing arts and visual design. 

This performance has instilled a deeper appreciation for the nation, history, and culture, reinforcing our school’s commitment to holistic education. 

Through rigorous collaboration across the BINUSIAN community at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, the valuable journey of R.A. Kartini was beautifully re-illustrated through the perspective of Ami, leaving a profound and remarkable memory for students and audiences alike.
