Students Campaign for the Environment

The BINUS University Chapter of Teach for Indonesia Student Community (TFISC) spearheaded an EnviroGreen Workshop and Campaign that had students from several schools participating. It encouraged the participants to be more concerned about their environment and provided them an in-depth introduction to organic waste management and eco-brick
production. The event was participated in by several BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi middle school and high school students as well as some teachers. It was held from 16-18 September 2021 and was conducted via Zoom. On the first day, Jessica Halim a cofounder of Demibumi.id spoke on “Organic Waste Management in Schools”.
On the second day, Aang Hudaya, a member of Bogor Eco-Brick Community talked about “Zero Waste Lifestyle at Schools”. And on the third day, Aang Haduya discussed the implementation of the EnviroGreen programme. the students tried making eco bricks by recycling plastics and plastic bottles. The students were then encouraged to participate in the EnviroGreen campaign to educate more people to be aware of the negative impact of plastic garbage on the environment and to act to cut or reduce the use of plastic and to learn to recycle them. Reflecting on what he learned from the workshop, Rafa N. Rassyantra (HS11C) said that “even though creating an eco-brick is hard and takes a lot of time, it is actually
important, and it offers a lot of advantages. Eco-bricks can replace other materials, like wood, so we do not have to cut down trees. It also helps to support the economy and it repurposes plastic waste and turns it into something useful.”
