BatikFest 2018 – Connecting Communities, Celebrating Indonesia

In commemoration of National Batik Day on 2nd October 2018, we held our annual BatikFest 2018 on Thursday, 11th October 2018.

The School took a closer look at the definition of batik and how batik has made its presence in Indonesian culture and communities. The theme for this year’s event was aptly titled, Connecting Communities and Celebrating Indonesia!

BatikFest 2018 saw students creating Batik postcards to connect with their pen-pals and friends in other cities. They also participated in a competition which required them to take snapshots of batik used in other non-fashion forms to showcase the uniqueness yet prevalence of batik in our society.

Students were also educated on the various types of batik patterns that come from the different regions of Indonesia and their significance to the Indonesian communities and culture. This school event was led by Mr Hari Prasetyo & Ms Sri Rezeki Soewardi, our School’s Visual Arts Teachers.

The highlight of our event was the BatikFest Fashion Parade where more than 50 parent volunteers strutted the catwalk to show just how vibrant and beautiful Batik fashion is in Indonesia!

Thank you, Parents… for making this event and learning experience a more enriching and meaningful one for all our students! ?

At the event, our Student Council (SC) and Welfare, Community & Service (WCS) Committee launched the Solidarity Drive for Palu in response to the recent earthquakes that hit the area.

Our SC collected used and/or new art & writing materials whilst our WCS Committee collected cashless (Flazz) donations for the same cause. All cash donations were handled by our PSG.

Solidarity Drive for Palu was kicked off with an auction of homemade Batik roll cakes which were donated by one of the parents in the School.

At the close of the drive on 25th October 2018, our School community raised a total of IDR 16.200.000 for the cause. Thank you & God bless, BINUSIANS! ?
