READING INTERVENTION

Based on academic research, we understand that early reading competence help students to achieve success in school. Thus, our School’s Early Reading Intervention Programme (ERIP) is designed to help our young learners who may require a bit more assistance to achieve this competence as early as ECY3. Our intensive reading programme aims to enable beginning readers to develop phonemic awareness, strategies of word identification, oral reading fluency, and eventually the ability to read independently. The programme’s objectives are based on the stages of Cambridge Primary English Framework for ECY3, EL1 and EL2.

This school year, the LRC launched ERIP on 23rd October 2019. A total of 25 participants were selected for this programme, based on the results from a diagnostic reading assessment and teachers’ observations. At the coaching sessions, are students are provided with a balanced range of literacy activities. Also, students are provided with at-home activities so that they may continue their learning and engagement with reading with the help and support of parents, in the comfort of their own homes.

To ensure a strong school-home partnership, parents are provided with a progress report of their child at the end of each term. Students who have achieved the expected level of reading competence and mastery based on their age range are awarded with a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the term. Since the start of the programme, we are pleased to have ten (10) participants achieve this milestone at the end of Term 2. Good job, BINUSIANS! Continue to press on for your goals!
