Hwa Chong Institution – Asia Pacific Young Leaders’ Summit 2021

The pandemic does not deter our students from actively engaging in overseas leadership summits. At the beginning of this school year, from the 12th to the 15th of July 2021, two of our HS11 Students, Gabriela Wibiana Susanto (HS11C) and Aubrey Wijaya (HS11A), represented the school at the Hwa Chong Institution – Asia Pacific Young Leaders’ Summit 2021, an event that has been running since 2006.
While the summit was conducted online in accordance with the Safe Management Measures stipulated by the Singapore Government, it was not less challenging or productive. In order to cater to the different time zones of the delegates joining from different parts of the world, the conferences were conducted from around 05:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
Through the different activities of the summit, the student leaders from countries around the world got the chance to network with their peers, intellectually engage and inquire into issues confronting the world, and focus on multicultural and multilateral understanding.
In reflecting on her experience, Gabby said that she “joined this summit because I’ve always loved the value of exchanging thoughts. The event helped me be more confident and taught me so much about how important it is to voice out my opinions and ideas in order to solve problems with others.”
Aubrey, for her part, shared that the “HC–APYLS was a great experience for me. It helped me to share my ideas and thoughts about the world’s current problems and encouraged me to actively participate and socialize with delegates from other countries and add my insights on the pandemic we are facing right now.”
