Teacher’s Achievement at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi: Mr Syakti’s Global Citizenship Education Workshop

Thanks to their unwavering dedication and enthusiasm, outstanding teachers are the main pillar in generating a brighter future for the students and the nation. BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, as an international school in Bekasi, also has one outstanding teacher with remarkable achievements. His name is Mr. Syakti Perdana Sriyansyah.

This is not only reflected in the students’ academic outcomes but also in the achievements of outstanding teachers, who can also be seen from the positive impact they have on their students’ lives and society as a whole.

Accordingly, we are going to meet Mr. Syakti and his notable achievements as one of the teachers at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi. More particularly, we will follow his journey at the GCE Workshop in Seoul, South Korea.

Mr. Syakti of BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi and His Amazing Background

Mr. Syakti teaches Physics at Lower and Upper Secondary Levels (Middle and High School). He has been teaching at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi since 2021. He joined this international school in Bekasi upon graduating from the University of Mataram with his Bachelor’s Degree.

Okay, let’s do some flashbacks of his seriously awesome achievements as a teacher.

• An award as the most inspirational junior high school teacher finalist from the Ministry of Education and Culture.
• He was lined up to be a speaker at a forum held by the Ministry of Education of Thailand named the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology. 
• A research grant from the Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization (SEAMEO)’s QITEP in Mathematics. 
• He was granted the 2021 Science Education Award by the Indonesia TORAY Science Foundation (from Japan).
• An award at the Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization (SEAMEO)’s QITEP in Science.
• A grand finalist in the National Innovative Science Teacher Competition held by the Indonesia Scientific Society supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture’s P4TK Science Competition.
• A grant competition from UNESCO APCEIU or the Asia Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding.

Mr. Syakti got his Post-Bachelor’s Degree from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. He enjoys teaching, especially experimenting in the laboratory, as he can see his students exploring themselves enthusiastically, even to the extent that they forget that the class has ended. 

Teacher Achievement: Mr Syakti’s Journey at GCE Workshop in Seoul, South Korea

Mr. Syakti’s latest outstanding achievement was his contribution to a Global Citizenship Education workshop held in Seoul, South Korea. Let’s see his journey to attend the prestigious international event.

The event’s name was Advanced Workshop on GCED for Alumni and the International Conference on GCED in 2023. It was held from 16 – 23 October 2023 in Seoul, South Korea. There were about 26 passionate participants from over 13 countries, including Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bhutan, Mongolia, Peru, and more.  

Mr. Syakti was invited by the UNESCO APCIEU as he was the Alumni of the APCEIU on GCED in 2022. He received a grant to conduct a GCED project and finish it with the STUDENT SUMMIT on GCED 2023 implemented by the Student Council and teachers at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi.  

The 2023 Alumni Sharing and the 8th Conference in Seoul had a theme of “Unpacking GCED: Transformative Learning for Critical Empowerment.” The alumni were invited to share the projects or initiatives they have conducted in their communities. 

The event indeed allowed project sharing and discussion forums among diverse participants. Mr. Syakti also said that it was an incredible experience to witness the transformative power of global citizenship and education, as well as the significance of the global perspective.

It is safe to conclude that the above GCED workshop and international conference have shown not only Mr Syakti’s achievement but also his commitment to modern teaching and transformative learning that is expected to have a positive impact on global citizen education at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi as an international school.
