Inspiring Workshop at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi: Primary Student Council Leadership 2024 for Younger Students

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”. The famous quote by the late President of the USA, John F. Kennedy, perfectly depicts the leadership workshop activities that BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi organises annually for its students. 

On November 20, 2024, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi held the Primary Student Council Leadership Workshop. Throughout the day, our Primary Student Council bodies got a new experience that allowed them to learn more about leadership. This innovative program helps the student cultivate their understanding and foundation of leadership skills. 

The Aim of Leadership Workshop for Primary Students

The Primary Student Council Workshop 2024 is part of our commitment to preparing primary students with a solid foundation of social skills, including problem-solving and creative thinking dexterity. We aim for the participants to grasp inspiring leadership during the workshop.

Thus, various activities were arranged for the workshop to introduce diverse aspects of leadership. The skills that students learned through those activities consisted of communication, problem-solving, and teamwork (collaboration) skills. 

Activities Students Had During the Workshop

Since we foster an innovative and hands-on learning approach for each academic and non-academic subject, the activities are introduced in a fun yet dynamic setting. 

Before the onboarding workshop activities, Mrs Karah, our principal and one of the students’ closest role models in terms of leadership, gave an uplifting welcome opening to the primary students. The opening was an activation that encouraged students to focus and enjoy the workshop. 

As a starter of the leadership workshop program, the Primary Student Council was joined by their teachers and coaches from Merry Riana Education to discover public speaking and leadership fundamentals. 

Along with this program, they learned about the keys to public speaking skills. For example, distributing and maintaining their energy during speech. 

Moreover, the students also participated in performing what they had learned through role play, which encouraged their confidence. 

This practical learning session enabled them to memorise, explore, and reflect better on their learned topic. 

After the public speaking sessions, the team of Merry Riana Education also taught them about teamwork and collaboration. They introduced this topic through diverse games requiring students to collaborate and work on the students’ teamwork. 

In addition to collaboration and teamwork, the Primary Student Council of BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi also learned to be innovative and persevere under pressure while working on each game. 

The Advantage of Leadership Workshop for Primary Students

By and large, leadership training for primary students will help amplify their leadership foundation that will advance their future. 

The activities during this year’s workshop instilled their sense of responsibility for themselves and their surroundings. Specifically, learning about public speaking equips them with communication skills and enhances their confidence and empathy. 

Furthermore, the games that require teamwork hone their creative and critical thinking skills, shaping a more nimble and adaptable mindset, which are crucial attributes of good leaders.
