On 24th September 2024, a group of passionate students proudly represented the school at the Green Meeting: Driving Innovation with Environmental Commitment, an event hosted by Green Zone NASSA School.

This exciting gathering provided an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of sustainability and environmental responsibility while engaging in hands-on activities aimed at creating lasting change.

A Platform for Environmental Innovation

The Green Meeting 2024 gathered students, educators, and experts to discuss and share innovative ways to address environmental challenges. Among the attendees were BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi students Arka, Serena, and Adelaine, who were eager to contribute to and learn from this collaborative initiative.

The event was designed to ignite passion for sustainability and encourage young people to use their creativity to develop practical solutions for environmental issues.

One of the highlights of the event was the workshop led by Kak Jessica, the Co-Founder of @demibumi.id, where participants learned how to create sustainable products. The students were guided through the process of making soap from buah lerak (a local fruit used for natural soap production) and crafting beeswax wraps, which are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic wraps.

These activities not only allowed the students to gain valuable hands-on experience but also empowered them with the knowledge to create products that contribute to a cleaner, greener planet.

Inspiring Sustainable Solutions

The event featured several keynote speakers from organisations such as @vel.earth, @boolet.id, and @greenerationid. These experts shared insights into the latest sustainable practices and innovations, shedding light on ways to reduce environmental impact.

The students from BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi were particularly engaged in the discussions, eager to explore how businesses and communities can contribute to a more sustainable future.

In addition to the workshops and talks, the students had the opportunity to participate in a hydroponic plant harvesting activity. This hands-on experience not only taught them about sustainable farming methods but also highlighted the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Hydroponics, a method of growing plants without soil, is an increasingly popular solution for sustainable food production, especially in urban environments where space and resources are limited.

Building a Greener Future Together

The Green Meeting served as an excellent platform for BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi students to connect with other environmentally-conscious individuals and organisations. Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing, they were able to explore how they can play an active role in driving sustainability within their own school and wider community.

Arka, Serena, and Adelaine left the event feeling inspired and motivated to apply their newfound knowledge. They plan to bring what they have learned back to BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, with a vision to incorporate sustainable practices into school activities and everyday life.

This event also reinforced the importance of teaching sustainability from a young age. By engaging students in hands-on, impactful experiences, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi ensures that its learners are not only aware of environmental issues but are also empowered to take action.

The Green Meeting was a testament to the school’s ongoing efforts to build a generation of environmentally responsible citizens who are ready to lead and innovate for a greener world.
