Bryan, a Student in Grade 12, Brought a Solar Charging Station to BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi

Sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives are ongoing efforts. Therefore, the sense of environmental stewardship should be nurtured in all sectors of society, including educational institutions. 

To instil environmental consciousness and knowledge at our school, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi actively integrates environmental frameworks and initiatives within our school. 

One of many of its implementations is the Solar Power Energy Project, a collaboration between Bryan, our visionary student from Grade 12, and the Building Management team. Driven by a lifelong passion for renewable energy, his project has brought solar-powered energy streetlights, followed by solar charging stations, to our school’s grounds.

From Solar Energy Project to Charging Station: A Collaborative Journey 

Previously in 2024, along with the Building Management (BM) team of BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, Bryan installed solar-powered streetlights that illuminated our school. 

Bryan began to work for the Solar Power energy project, initiated and fully funded by BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi during his grade 11 year. This project was aimed to broadly promote green energy and technology usage throughout our school and community.  

Personally, Bryan wanted to explore renewable energy more. Through this project, he discovered the wide range of daily needs that solar energy could address and hence decided to implement his research in a pilot project. 

Previously, Bryan expressed his hope that the solar-powered energy project would be a stepping stone to further development and use of renewable energy at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi.  

Together with the Building Management team and through discussion with his Physics Teacher, Mr. Nugroho, Bryan explored the best product format that aligned with SDG and the available timeline and funding. 

The first product of the project which was solar-powered showed that solar-powered energy allows our school to reduce their carbon emissions. Further, based on that success, Bryan then expanded his project to address the need through a fully solar-powered charging station. 

Consequently, the projects amplify our school’s vision regarding the implementation of SDG and also support the transformation of our students’ potential into tangible solutions that benefit the community. 

Eco-Friendly Charging for BINUSIANS 

The Solar Charging Station that Bryan and the BM team produced and installed are ready to serve every BINUSIANS need to recharge their devices. Whenever needed, every BINUSIAN can charge their laptops, smartphones, or other gadgets utilising this new feature powered by green energy. 

The solar charging station has several charging lockers with locks to ensure safe accessibility. Thus, those who need it can go to Gate B of BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi where the solar charging station was installed and obtain the key before accessing the charging locker. This inspiring solution is not only accessible but also convenient since it can be used at any time within school operational hours. 

Above and beyond, by leveraging this feature BINUSIAN does not only benefit themselves with fast solutions. They also contribute to larger sustainability efforts by reducing the school’s carbon emissions. 

Student-School Collaboration to Reinforcing Innovation and Sustainability

The product of a solar-powered energy project led by a collaboration of Bryan and the BM team not only brought innovative and sustainable products as solutions to environmental problems. Further, this scientific project also benefits students’ skill development, specifically in critical thinking and problem-solving,  by honing and harnessing them through inquiry learning methods. 

Through this collaborative scientific project, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi emphasises our ongoing support for students’ research, exploration, and development of their inspiration, knowledge, and skills. This also exemplifies our efforts to inspire students like Bryan to become active contributors to a sustainable future, leveraging available resources through collaboration.

It serves as a visible symbol of the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Innovation

The solar charging station is another testament to the immense usability of solar energy. It benefits our community’s daily needs in their academic journey and favours our efforts in combatting climate change by reducing carbon emissions. 

This project represents a significant step towards the school’s long-term goal of reducing its carbon footprint and cultivating a culture of environmental stewardship among its students.
